I made this training Hawk. It's made from ballistic fiberglass that is used for safe rooms. It is rated for shotgun and handgun. It was a PITA to cut. I used a jigsaw and dremel. Now I need to look into making a training dummy and find some decent (free) training videos.

Looks very good. Does it weight the same as your Shrike? Lots of reading and free hanging logs will take you very far in your hawk training.

Looks good! If you're going to spar with a partner, I'd recommend rounding the points off to keep from excess blood. :)

I'll probably stick with logs but will round the corners if I go live. Weight wise it's quite a bit lighter.

Being pretty much the exact same shape as your Shrike will certainly help but you will really appreciate the difference it makes in your training when they are the same weight. I would even go as far as to paint it black to match the Shrike, believe it or not, even a visual difference will make the transition back to the Shrike a little awkward even if the shape and weight are spot on. Great looking trainer though! Good job!

I wanted to add, figure if you go as far as to even make and use a trainer (which most don't, so again, great job) might as well go all out and get the most out of it. Do it right and when the need arises to "go live", the difference in weight, color and shape of the trainer are just 3 less things you will have to worry about and the focus will all be in what you've learned training, not in trying to account in the differences between the trainer and Shrike.

I doubt that the RMJ nylon training hawk weighs the same as the "real Mc Coy". I'll have to make due-Thanks for the advise.
