Anyone know of a place in the North L.A. area that teaches stick/knife fighting in the Filipino Combat Arts??

Cop911,

Try this website, www.geocities.com/manaois_eskrima. We also have links to local FMA schools. Hope that helps.

I don't know how far you're willing to travel but here's one in Reseda:

Magda Institute Of Martial Art
7255 Canby Ave
Reseda, CA 91335
(818) 342-2455

I've not trained there but Cass Magda is a highly respected FMA and JKD instructor. I'm sure some of the So Cal JKD guys, like Arnistador or Gollnick, could tell you more about him.

Since you are in the Los Angeles area anyway, I highly recommend you go straight to the what I consider the source:

Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts
7298 West Manchester Ave Suite B
Los Angeles 90045

Gee Cop911, you're in the L.A. area and want to find a FMA teacher? Well just open your eyes. Heck, don't open you're eyes and you'll still find some ... as you TRIP OVER THEM!!!!

L.A. is a veritable cornucopia of FMA, IMA and just about every other MA around ... especially when compared to the Mid-Atlantic area.

I finally got lucky though ... and looked long enough!

Seriously though, I think your biggest problem will be choosing from the prospects.

I appreciate the assistance. I live up in the Santa Clarita area, and its almost like living in the desert...nothing really interesting up in this area. Thanx to all.

Ahhh ... I seeeee

I feel for you Cop911. For years I've affectionately called my area (Washington, D.C. area) the "Martial Arts Wasteland" because although there's lots of teachers around, most teach a heavily commercialized and watered down art. I guess I should now bestow that honor on you and your area

since more recently I've found some very skilled people teaching some very interesting arts from varied cultures.

I'd be willing to bet that there's more around you than you realize because not everyone teaches openly. If you look and ask around long enough you'll start hearing about people, some of which will teach out of their garage to a hand full of people. Some of it is just pure luck of asking the right person the right question.

Good luck!!!

Dave.
