As m.a. oriented training khukuris are a little hard to find I thought I'd share this-

I had ordered a pair of custom training khukuris from Edges2, Inc. a few years ago for a seminar. I was visiting their web site-

http://www.trainingblades.com/

and noticed they have a picture of one of them in the custom blades gallery. They have aluminum blades with micarta handle slabs and are pretty close to the real thing except for the weight and handle design. They work. I can't say enough about the reasonable pricing, quality and service.

I sincerely hope this will be of help to those who pursue the khukuri as a defensive tool in addition to everything it does so well.

Thanks for info, Pat.

Aluminum sounds good for practice, then you could later move up to blunted steel with something like windshield wiper rubber covering the edges. Or something.

DIJ has some practice khuks made of cutting board plastic....neat idea.

Thanks Rusty. I'm thinking for full force practice on a target such as a hanging tire wrapped with rope, a carpet wrapped pole, or one of the newer higher-tech weapon striking targets a regular forged and fitted khukuri with a very rounded, blunt edge and point would be ideal. The weight and balance would be correct. I'm looking into having a set of wooden versions made (see to Purple Heart Armory link below).

For techniques with a partner the mass of the training weapon can be very dangerous. Even the lightweight aluminum training kuks can break a wrist or fingers easily when applied with speed (mass effect increases with velocity). Kenjustsu practicioners well know the power of even lightweight bokken. There is no "safe" sparring weapon when not using fencing armor.

We have contacted the people at RSW about making a khukuri version of their full contact training weapons- link below.

for wasters, bokken, and others:

Hope this is helpful.
