Training Knives for $100.00? You got to be Kidding ME!!!!!

Maybe we should let sleeping dogs lay?

Let's be careful here. It is Mad Dog's right to price his product at whatever he wants. If he can get 100 bucks for a piece of aluminum and G-10 then good for him.

I guess it is not such a bad deal when you consider the Kydex sheath or Dundee rig is reportedly included.

Here is his post so you don't have to hunt it down. Actually I am not sure I would do it for $100 myself. How long would it take to make one of these Allen? How much in material cost and then time?

He may be losing money at $100 in the end. Ya never know

I am considering the production of several very knifelike (Knifequins?) training aids.
They would have 5/16" thick aluminum blades with radiused edges, a blunt tip, and composite handles exactly like the regular Mad Dogs, as well as complete Kydex sheath setups. To wit, the Panther trainer would come with a Dundee Rig, the ATAK trainer would come with an ATAK sheath, etc.
Other sheaths would be available as well.

The trainers would balance and feel to within 3% of the real knives, and make for very realistic training tools.
They would draw from sheath the same, balance/feel the same, just not cut/stab the same.
To get an idea of what a potential 3% difference would be, hold 97 pennies in one hand, and 100 pennies in the other.
Feel the difference?

They would go for about $100.00 each, with Kydex sheath included.

Naturally, there are less expensive alternatives offered by others that make a reasonably good product, most notably Bob Berghi (sp?).
I don't want to start making them if they are deemed to be too expensive, and I can't afford to make them for less.
The question is this:
Does the ultra realism of the proposed Mad Dog trainers justify their cost and added production effort from me?

But who ever said Allen was talking about Mad Dog? I'm sure there are other forums offering $100 training knives, right?

I just went back to copy the text from Mad Dog's post. If you go there and notice the locked threads, please don't bring that back here. I was hoping that stuff was behind us by now.

For goodness sakes, man, just leave it alone. This kind of bitter, petty, infantile behavior is starting to ruin this Forum. If someone wants to offer a very specific item to his clientele, for whatever reason, that is strictly between them. What purpose does it serve to try and stir up negative feelings over the issue, especially here? This thread should be locked, the subject dropped, and a serious consideration of the motives involved on both sides should take place in the privacy of your own minds.
