Just a quick plug for the Tram 14" bolo. This is the one machete I find really competitive with a hatchet for upland backpacking. Light, short, packs a serious punch for its size, is my all around favorite machete. I normally use it only for backpacking, but decided to see how it would work for processing down a larger tree-limb that fell in my yard. Used it for everything under 3-4", larger stuff I used my Fiskars axe or chainsaw. The pics don't do justice, I dragged out 8 piles that were chest high and 10-15 feet long.
The Tram was going through branches up to 2" with a single hit, and kept up all day long without a sharpening of any kind - maybe 100-200 hard cuts, maybe more (wasn't counting). End of the day, it was still going through 2" branches with a single hit. Downed limb was Norway maple, shook the house when it landed uncomfortably close to my house (living room). The whole family was in there at the time - I heard a loud CRACK and went to the window just in time to see it land about 8 feet away. Ripped all the lines off my house, but the lights didn't even flicker, and cable didn't miss a beat.
I gave it a quick touch-up on the strop board at the start of the morning, end of day it could still push-cut newspaper everywhere but the sweet spot. I stropped it on plain paper, cleaning up most of the sap and dirt. Amazing, with only this meager TLC the sweet spot could shave arm hair and crosscut newspaper with a bit of draw.
Anyway, I know this particular item is well-thought of already, but had to put in another plug - very impressive. The grip fits my medium sized hands so well I didn't put on my gloves till I broke out the chain saw. No hot spots or blisters. Two thumbs way up.
