Well I finally decided to break down and order one of these (Tramontina 12" Machete) and the source that I had saved to my favorites is out of stock. Does anyone know where I can get one? Also, how do you think that the Tramontina 12" compares to the Ontario. I really chose that brand because of the price. I plan on doing like I think "Pic" showed with the different edge types along the blade.

Good choice 'Ol Bud they are hard to beat for the $ !
The Ontario is a thicker/stiffer machete. The Tram is thinner & more flex. I have a 12" Ontario & a 14" Tram. I like them both. The Ontario I use for the heavy/hard chopping (when I don't have an axe handy) The tram for everything else. You can find both brands at smokey mountian knife works

Thanks. Smokey Mountain is where I went to order one but they're out of stock. Couldn't find the 12" anywhere else so far (the Tram that is). Is the Ontario much heavier than the Tram?

Cheaper then dirt has em.

Good choice I keep a 12in in the truck. Great piece of kit!

The Ontario is a little heavier but not much.

The Ontario is heavier with a more forward weight and does better on hardwoods. The 12 inch Tramontina is a little light IMO but it works great for a wide variety of tasks. I carry one often when I hike in the mountains.

They are great for clearing ground for sleeping, chopping out roots and clumps of grass, etc.

The video you referred to is this one.

MACHETE MODIFICATIONS FOR THE BUSH

The 12 inch Tramontina is a great blade for the money but it is a little short/light if you are planning to do alot of cutting. Mac

While I prefer Tramontinas in the longer machetes, I prefer the Ontario in a short one. Its heavier blade makes it a better chopper.

you guys need to try the 14" imacasa.....woooooah.
