Alright guys, I'm in need of assistance!

I'm trying to locate a certain Tramontina machete.
It's the 17 inch, wire wrapped handle model. (bear with me, I'll try and post a picture)

I can't seem to find any supplier in the USA that sells these things, and I'd really like to try my hand at getting one.

Does anyone own one? If so, are they worth purchasing and where can I find one!?

Thanks for any help in advance, guys.

That's similar to what Colhane (a member here with a good YouTube channel) cut down and modded into his famous golok. He got rid of the wire and replaced it with home made micarta. I'd love to get one just to check out that wire handle.

Tramontina USA doesn't import those so to purchase them requires a retailer to import direct from Tramontina Brazil. Which is a huge headache, costs a lot of money, is an awful freaking lot of machetes to meet minimum order quantities...

Oh man, I can believe it!
Oh well, that's all fine and whatnot. I'll just sit back here and play the waiting game it seems.
I reckon I'll get a normal 18 inch Tram and do some handle mods myself.

I really appreciate all the help guys.

You can get a Marbles branded Imacasa with a wire wrapped handle. I think it's called a "Jungle Machete" or something similar.

Though I hear that the wire is plastic coated and it flakes. :D If you rewrap it, though, it should be a fine machete.

someone explain the wire wrapped handleto me? Is it just decorative or is their an advantage with it? Thank you in advance.

I was more in it for the shape. :)
I was going to wrap some leather or hemp or something around it instead.
I've heard the wire wrapping was pretty poorly done on those Trams.

42Blades; what's your take on the Hansa Lampon? If you have one, that is.

Have you tried Machete Specialists? They are a USA compay with many models of Tramontina and other brands? Faiaoga

Yeah, MacheteSpecialists doesn't have it. :(
And, I'm not sure what color the handle is, but it's the 18 inch model.
I find that a blade any longer than that is a little too cumbersome to use.

The lampon I have is a 24" but it's a very nice machete. Hansa makes great stuff. :)

Lot of U.S. churches send short-term medical-misson teams to the Amazon River basin. With the right contact you might get a MD, RN or missionary to bring you a souvenir.

I have a Masai spear and Honduran machete that my wife brought home from Kenya and Honduras..pre-TSA.

You could get a regular Tramontina at the local farm store and go to work on it.

Best.

I have seen some of those for sale in South Florida. Flea market vendors tend to import a case or two and peddle them off while supplies last.

Atlanta Cutlery used to sell them (I bought one). I also have a Martindale with that type of wrap that came from Smith Hawkens back when they were a real garden tool company.
