Trance crooked, warranty?

I bought my first set of knives 6 months back, a Kershaw Shallot, which I find crap, a Buck something, and a Boker Trance which I really like.

I noticed both the Kershaw and the Trance had the blades not completely straight inside the handle. The Kershaw straightened itself but I noticed the Boker got scratches on the blade because of it.

I have a picture here where you can see what I mean.
Boker-Trance.jpg

The blade is touching the inside of the handle, at first I thought that it was intentional the way the knife locks itself when closed, but since the blade is getting scratched because of it, I guess it's not.

I tried to disassemble the Trance but removing the screws wasn't enough, and I was afraid to carry on.

My question is, is this a warranty issue?
I live in the Netherlands so I have to deal with Boker germany by the way.

And if I send it, what does it cost to resharpen?

Thanks in advance.

So long as the blade is centered when it is open, it should not matter. Edit, never mind, I didn't see the "blade got scratches" part. Good luck.

Hi "The Kid '

That looks not normal to me . Especially after your tried to adjust the pivot screw. I would send it in to Boker or contact your dealer for replacement;

The tang/pivot area on the blade looks a bit tilted.

Unfortunately with production sometimes one slips the QC.

They will take good care of you.

That was my first thought, that the pivot screw was loose, allowing the framelock to push the blade to one side, but if you've tried snugging it up and it didn't help or you had to make it too tight to easily open, definitely send it back to Boker.

P.S. It could also possibly be a deformed pivot washer on that side. Have you looked at that?

No, I removed the screw but the blade was still connected to the handle and I just put it back together again.

It's a pivot screw problem on both knives.
They have to be properly assembled and adjusted to work properly.
You will need to take the screws out and separate the handles or push the pivot's seat out to get the blade off.
I've never owned a boker but on the Shallot(which is a great knife,Btw), make sure there is a washer on both sides of the blade and the tighten the pivot screw and then back it off very slightly, it cannot be loose or you get blade play enough to have the blade touch the liner. you can send it back to the dealer you got them from or contact the manufacturers. Personally, i'd call the dealer you got them from first and tell them about the problem, since their the ones who took your money.
I'm not sure about Boker ,but i assume their customer service is similar to Kershaws.
If you send The shallot to Kershaw they will Adjust it up and resharpen it for you for no cost, but call them first.

Just to be sure.

Kid: did you check the bladestop screws to be tight on both sides . Those are the 2 T6 screws just above the pivot screws?

See pic ; screw is marked in red;

I just checked them, they are tight.

Nice picture by the way, I should get me a Hyper as well.

I just filled out a contactsheet on the Boker site. Hope it al works out.

loosen all the screws of the knife but don't unscrew them out all the way. once loose tweak the frame so that the blade is centered. now tighten the screws up

Big bump.
Just got a new Trance back form Boker Germany after waiting 4 weeks.
I did get one very friendly and informal email back when I emailed them, for the rest the communication was subpar.
I didn't get an email when they received the knife, nor did I get a reference number. I got the feeling the whole company was run by a guy in a shed. :p

But the most important part, the actual costumer service is top notch since I received a brand new Trance!
They even threw in some reading material in the form of two catalogs.

I had already a positive attitude towards Boker, but now they have a fan.

That's good news 'the kid'! Yeah i thought they would take good care!

Now warning!! Reading these catalogues will induce serious cash flow problems.

Alohallo the kid,

Sorry about the lack of communication, but they were possibly preparing for shows and the like. Even if Boker was run by a "guy in a shed", he'd take care of ya!:D

Glad all worked out for you. De Trance is een geweldig werkmes!!!

God bless!;)

Thanks for the heads up :)

The Trance is indeed a very nice knife, I only use it to cut packaging though. :o
