Trance frame lock going all the way to the other side.

Hey folks,

I'm just wondering, typically would you send a knife back to Boker to get serviced if the lock hits the other side? Out of the two Trances I just got the drop point one I have now has the frame lock hitting the other side of the knife. There is no blade play yet but this means that there is no more ability to wear in.

Anyone else have theirs go all the way across yet?

I realize every now and then we all encouter things like this. Just looking for the best thing to do here? Send it to Boker? Send it to STR and pay? Deal with it until it develops blade play?

Dang I love the knife but after about 50 openings the frame lock is now hitting the other side.

Thanks everyone in advance.

Go ahead and send it in, and I'll take a look at it for you after I come back from vacation.
Thanks, Terry

Terry,

Wow, you must be from Boker? Just so you know I've had the knife since Friday night.

Thanks very much. Again, I love the knife I just wasn't sure what I should do in this situation.

Thanks,
David

David,

I'm sorry to hear your first trance akts up on you.
I'm sure Terry will fix the problem.

Look at this picture;

framelock.jpg

The space between the locking bar of the framelock and the rest of the metal slab should be 2 mm . On the bar itself you see within the with red marked space the cutout on the locking bar which should look simular to the one shown in this picture.

;)

Maarten,

The knife went out to Boker this morning so I can't really look at it. I know they will take care of it, I have no doubts about that. On the other hand, I'm carrying my black clip point with partial serrations and it is perfect. ;)

I was wondering David,

Till so far i had no issues with my CLB's . My last direkt has severe punishment from my side due to my approaaach on newbies..;) Next to that i hate liner locks.. except a few.. :D

Maarten,

Yeah I'm the same with liner locks. Me no likey. :)

I surely am not going to judge all the Bokers just by the one Frame Lock Trance I had trouble with. Again, I have another one in my pocket right now and it's perfect.

I hate lockbacks!!! Just cut my finger while playing with the Fällkniven TK4, tried the one hand closing trick like the Spydies could - dumb, dumb, dumb:grumpy: Bleed almost a tea spoon, very fine cut and does'nt hurt at all. First time cutting myself in one and half year. Just had to shout it out:o

No problem what so ever with any quality linerlocks I have. My dad gave me some cheapo knock-off folders, like a crappy (imitation) Herbertz. With crappy liners like that, I'd treat the blade like a slipjoin.

The framelock on my KeyCom does have some engagement problemos (not with the viancée:D), hopefully it will be solved if I play with it a bit more. Won't be an issue though for such lil delicate blade - it has not "ABUSE ME" stamped on it.

David,

If you like the Trance for its size, i could recommand the hyper as well. Its handle approx 1/2 an inch shorter than the spydie Delica but a bit wider. Very comfortable and nice low rider clip. Even a buddy of mine who has rather large mids finds it very comfortable. (He however is cheap and won't spend much money on knives.)

Going off topic;

MOI

You might like that new Fallkniven PXL,
They sure look nice except for the lock . Ivory Micarta or Maroon Micarta. Expensive though....

Hope you have plenty of bandages in the house for future knive harresment...:p

I used bandaid spray, otherwise it would ruined the nice patron of blood splattered on the carpet.:D

PS I did "mildly" conducted the back tap test on the SubCom when I had it, no problem at all.

David,
Just wanted to let you know, your knife arrived today.
I will probably be checking it out Monday.
Thanks, Terry
