Trance question

Hey guys. I've been looking at the Trance lately, and just have one question. I prefer tip-up carry, and I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem carrying tip-up with the fact that the Trance has a flipper. I also carry a pen and my cell phone in my right front pocket, and was thinking about the possibility of things shifting and exposing the blade tip. Any advice is helpful.

I prefer tip-down for safety when carrying a flipper in my pocket. In tip-up position, there is always the possibilty of getting stabbed by a partially opened blade when reaching into your pocket.

All of my EDC "tactical" knives are "tip-up" which I prefer because they, obviously, are a little faster to deploy. I have just purchased a Trance, by the way.
I've never had any problem getting stabbed by a partially-opened blade. I simply utilize the pocket-clip and place the knife at the very back of my front pocket so the blade is nestled up against the seam of the pants and, thus, can't deploy. I thought everyone did it that way. But I can't imagine the blade ever being a problem in the tip-up position as long as the knife is carried at the very rear of the pocket up against the seam. Perhaps others can offer additional insight.

I EDC my Trance SE in my left pocket tip-down, easily wave-able once you have mastered the aquired skill( i.e. away from you instead of towards you like the EKI Wave) Actually, every knife with a decent thumbstub could be waved in tip-up position, kinda hard to explain how to snag the thumbstub with the edge of your pocket...

If the thumbstud has enough of an "edge" - in tip-up position, you simply grasp and pull upwards, while twisting your wrist slightly outwards and using your thumb to press the knife against the inside of your pocket.

Something similar can be done in reverse grip too, especially in jean-style pockets (non-vertical "cut").

I never had any problem with my Trance, no matter what was in my pocket. And I love tip-up carrying! It's of course more likely that the blade might open with the flipper that without it, but I guess chances are nonetheless pretty low. Get a Trance and enjoy it! It was one of my first and one of my best purchases to the present day.

Because I was entranced with my new Trance I carried it blade point up not realizing the potential blood-letting consequences. I reached into my pocket and felt a keen slice and gushing blood. It had bit me across the little finger knuckle joint long and deep. Dang, that one hurt. I love my Boker's but found this to be a wild child. Needless to say a cut into the lower belly might have proved problematic at best, nor any mention of slicing the unmentionables! Nice knife, but wicked.

The only way I carry a knife is tip up. I carry my Trance this way, among other types, and have never had an issue.
Thanks, Terry

Aloha ALL,

I agree with TJT here. As Wayne1961 mentioned, when carrying tip up (which IS the ONLY way to carry IMHO, LOL!!!) ya gotta stuff that knife towards the outer edge of your pocket, as this prevents the blade from opening. Period.

Tip down, ya gotta reverse the knife location in pocket, just be sure it is always at the the edge of the pocket seem, and the Trance in tip down will be fine.

ONLY time I get "issues" with my Trance and Hyper in tip down mode, is when I try to "adjust" the knife location as I am placing it in pocket. Have had the knife partially open as I was moving it towards the "centerline", i.e. pocket seem closest to my center for tip down. BUT that was MY fault, and not the fault of the aforementioned knives.

I had a 1st Gen BM Stryker that I carried tip down, mid pocket...that all changed when I snagged the disc upon replacing it into my pocket and caught a glimpse of steel sticking out of my RFP...cripes, and I was wearing jeans! This taught me to place the knife snugly against either edge of the pocket:

Tip up: closest towards the outside of your leg.
Tip down: closest towards the inside of your leg.

God bless and sorry about that Sevensix...
