After reading John's incredibly informative post on the different Commanders, I took a look at mine. I have an original '98 Satin (#177), and a '99 Black T plain-edge, and gave a buddy my 2000 Black T combo-edge. Comparing the 3, I came to the following conclusion: I believe there was a "transition" Commander between the 1st Gen. and 2nd Gen. Commanders.
Here is why.
My '98 has the water-cut blade/liners. This is obvious. The '99 is laser-cut. The liners are just a hair thinner than the '98, but still quite thicker than the 2000. On the '98, all screws are large slotted-type. On the '99, they are phillips, except for the clip. On the 2000 all are phillips. G10 on the '98 and '99 are almost identical, but quite a bit thinner on the 2000. So....
I think there is definitly some sort of "transition" or crossover period between the full-fledged 1st Gen. and 2nd Gen. Does anyone else notice the differences on their '99 Commanders? Or have I just had one too many shots of Jaager in my time???
I invite discussion.
