Interesting knife for the reasons you posted. I have a grudge against that pattern because of a 498 that I bought in the 80s. I don't know what the blade steel was like on others of that blade style and grind, but it was terrible on that knife I owned. It got dull so fast while skinning a deer that I eventually set it aside for years until I sold it on ebay for way more than I paid for it. I hated that thing. It's intended chores were much better served with a LB7 that I used for everything, hunting and camping, after that.
