i hear that these dont get dark while inside a car. is there anything new that i didnt hear about that works better?

I understand that it is UV that causes the transition. I think the windshield would do a decent job filtering out most of it, so it's likely that your glasses would remain clear in the vehicle.

I always wondered about the effectiveness of transition lenses. My roommate last year had them and always complained that they would remain darkened for about ten minutes when he goes indoors for class.

....for several years and enjoy them alot! They do react to UV and barely darken inside a car unless of course the sun is hitting them; then they do darken somewhat, but the windshield filters enough that they never attain their maximum darkness. They change more rapidly after they "break in" and I never really notice the change unless I walk inside and look into a mirror before they clear up. Then I'm really surprised at their darkness!

I really love mine. I have the metallic based window film on my car here in sunny Arizona so, I get to test these features on a regular basis :)

In my case, I specified glass lenses and heat hardening (vs. chemical hardening) to help them retain a little more tint when indoors for extended periods.

I guess I'm used to it know but, I really never notice my glasses remaining dark once indoors or getting dark indoors. A few co-workers ocassionally comment about my sun glasses though so, it is obviously noticable to them ;)
