I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and am wondering how to transport my Busse Combat Hell Razor. I live in Massachusetts and am going to colorado by plane. How should I go about doing this? (The Hell Razor is a 7" fixed blade)

Stuff it in your pants!

No, not really!

It should be ok in checked luggage, although it could be nabbed by a thief.
You could lock it to the suitcase, perhaps.
Or you can mail it to your destination?

The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) website has a list of items with a yes/no format on whether to place in checked baggage or carry-on bags...

Fixed blades must be in checked luggage, and further down the list is this note:
"Note Any sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors."

Download the whole TSA Prohibited Items List as a Word document here:
http://www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/editorial/editorial_1012.xml

I've traveled with folders and have had no problems. (All folders must be also be checked, & non-sheathed folders must be wrapped with a rubber band or other device to keep it from opening during any inspection of your luggage, even if you know it won't open! ...Seriously.)

Have a safe trip!

If you go the Checked Luggage route you should be able to stand there while they are searching your bags and then put your own locks and such on them afterwards. That should eliminate some of the theft. I think it was Gollnick(sp?) that is very informed on this.
