Busse Combat uses a unique heat-treat process called Transversion Wave Tempering. What exactly is Transversion Wave Tempering? How does this process of heat-treat differ from others? Is Busse Combat the only manufacturer to use this process? From what I understand through my various readings on Busse Combat, this is basically what sets Busse apart from the pack. I think it merits a discussion.

Matteo,

I raised this question once before and the answer I got was Busse doesn't discuss this proprietary process. Maybe Jerry will give us a hint, but that's their position. :D

Mat,

I would say that it is a case of "Don't ask, Don't tell. ;)

It is a cool way to make a hot product. more than that :footinmou

The bottom line is Jerry does't know jack about heat treatment. He can make up all these fancy names but he still hasn't answered the real question. Will his transverse-whateverthehellitscalled cook lunch? I don't think so....

I have a proprietary heat treatment myself...I call it the Non-version microwave heat treatment. Guaranteed to get two hot pockets ready to serve in 3:00 that 180 seconds for most of you :D

i have a feeling youd have to have a degree in metalurgy to fully understand it even if it was ever explained...

the basic idea of heat treats from what ive gathered is to run cycles of temperatures to get the molecules to combine and rearange to the correct amount and distribution of new particles desired. such as bainite, pearlite, and austenite. also to control grain size of those particles.

get the right wave pattern and you have magic

it's the hottest thing going! take a look at the awesome temper lines on the rats and busse's  there was a little talk of this process at blade but i passed out before i really understood the full effect of j/blue :barf:

hee! hee! hee!

Do you think Jerry made up that fancy name just to impress us and keep us guessing? Whatever he wants to call it, it seems to do the trick!

no, he did not make up the name. he was the first that i know of to use the the term for sure.
i know of a scandinavian company that just started to use the same kind of process or name on their filet knives.
i'm sure what ever it is, jerry knows best, and the reason and why he uses it.
