While spending time at my girlfriends parents house us guys had to get out of the house and go play in the woods. We decided to make trap that we had seen on the Wilderness Outfitters YouTube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzixQGRL1AY&feature=channel_video_title ).

So Noah, His dad, and I went into a section of woods behind their house. This is what we came up with.

He got to mess around with my BK2 a bit to work on his knife safety. We baited it with balogna and pepperoni, the joke was if the trap dosn't work hopefully the animal will get too fat to run away.

We plan on making more traps and work on his skills as time goes by.

Thanks for viewing.

Well done, on all accounts.

Great post up, dres.

That thing looks some kinda wicked. How much tension is on that trigger pole? And, how soft is the release?

Sorry, but I love traps, and that one looks like a keeper.

There is a good amount of tension on the trigger, but at the same time it is very sensitive. It is sorta balanced in there, a slight bump will trigger it. I had a few close calls while setting it.

While this dosn't seem like a high percentage trap it was fun to make and they enjoyed it. That is all that counts. :)

I wonder what the rpms on that dude will be. I've made whip traps, that work on a horizontal plane, I tend to fire harden the spike tip to. Gives me an excuse to make a fire. :D

I wish I knew how much force is involved with this trap but I don't. All I know is that it looks mean as hell! I bet you could add tension by using thick shock cord instead of paracord. That would be sweet.

Make one for yourself Moose and take pictures!

All I know is that that's the smile of a proto-Beckerhead.

Sounds like a plan. Will do.

Good looking trap there Dres. And good on you for getting that boy into the woods. He likes having that knife in his hand. That is for sure.

True Derek, he loves checking out my knives and gear. Last christmas I bought him a backpack with alot of survival type items. For his birthday I got him a nice 3 person cammo tent. When we go in the woods I loan him one of my knives. If he keeps respecting knives like he has been I will have to get him a nice fixed blade. The Becker handle is a little big for his hands right now but I am sure he will grow into it.

Hmm, maybe a tweener?

Jeremy

Tweener would be a fantastic choice. They are one heck of a knife, and probably a lot more "parent" friendly as well.

That is the thing. His sister (my girlfriend) and his mom freak out at the thought of him having a knife that size. His father dosn't mind at all.

We have been working hard to display his knife/overall woods safety to open up their minds to allowing cooler gear.

nice trap - we call those butt skewers :)

looks wicked. Have any setup pics? Id like to see how it goes together. My current trap lineup is only deadfalls (figure 4 and split stick) I've tried snares but I think im missing something since I can never get em to work. knowing how to do another trap will only help me in the long run

Speaking of trapping, anyone know a good one stop source for trap how tos?

Clich, in my origional post I posted a video of Dave Canterbury going over the trap. Did ya miss it?
Also on Dave Canterbury's channel there are a bunch of trap videos. Look up johnjayrambo11111 as well.
