I have a case trapper I was given soon to be two years ago.
I have used the knife quite a deel. It has a size that talks against it because its often uncomfortable big in the pocket. The talk here about backpockets has steared me that way but that isnt a ideal carry metod eather. Its also heavy in the pocket.
The thing I did with it rather soon after geting it was to file a little on the point to make it a round belly clippoint. I like that long strait edge with lots if belly in the point but Im a lefty and the nailnick kind of becomes hidden on the backside of the blade. Today I used my dremmel and made myself a nailnick on the other side of the blade so I can use my right tumbnail to open the blade. I plaised it a little further back just in front of the hump in the handle so it locks nice and harmonic in the lines of the handle. Not a custom beauty but not to bad eather.
This small modifications makes me like this knife even more. This is not an uncomplicated love as many things according to me is less than perfect with the pattern. But being in the wilderness Its good with two larger blades and a big comfortable handle. The trapper shows its coulours when in use. I prefere carbon steel but the SS in this knife is good enough for my uses. I have used it for fish and bird and also opened moosehide with it.
The pattern is 6254 and has a reedbone handle. Thank you sunnyd for helping me try this true american classic. Its a pattern that grows on me every time I use it.
