Just thought I would ask to see who else out there carry Trapper style knives. I just bought a Case Sliver Script Trapper with Cranberry Bone. Very nice and usefull. I have so far used it to cut veggies for dinner. Great design, and pretty handles.
I carry a Schrade Trapper with yellow composition scales, an Old Timer Bearshead Trapper, and a Camillus Trapper with tortoise shell celluloid scales. Not all at the same time though.
I personally never got use to the large spey blade, but I do have a Uncle Henry to keep a place in the collection. I do have a Case 31048 single blade Farmer/Trapper knife, that I love a lot. For some reason, when every I picture a Trapper, it has to have Yellow scales, any other materiels just won't do.
I do want to try out a large "Bullet" style Trapper, Camillus use to make a really nice Yellow Jacket model with a double lock.
I carry a case yellow handled trapper with CV steel about 50% of the time. I first used it to put away a box of peaches this year and really like the way it preformed.
The trapper is my favorite of the slip joint styles. I've carried many different Case models. I have a stag handled copy of the Remington trapper made by Bown for LL Bean, it's a beauty.
I have a few Case Trappers in my collection. I recently began carrying a yellow-handled, CV bladed, Case Mini Trapper. Its really beginning to grow on me!
I use the spey blade on mine for food stuff and the clip point for other stuff. I really like the Cranberry bone and the silver script instead of the sheild. This knife is really growing on me. It all started when I was showing an old patrolman close to retirement my Microtech SOCOM and he whipped out an old Schrade Trapper that he got a millenium ago from his grandpa or something. He told me that young bucks like myself can keep our tactical folders cause his old trapper gave him years of dependable service. He kind of hit a good nerve in my body. I was thinking that my Tac folders will never become worthwhile hand-me-downs when I have a family. That is what turned me onto traditional slipjoints and the Trapper.
Trapper is #1 with me also. My favorite is a Queen Bowie Corp. with green bone scales. 1095 blades. Skinned a deer this winter with it . Nice piece. I also like the Q #11's. Single blade, nice and light and all sorts of variations in handle material. Probably have a dozen or more and carried most of them at some time or another.
4 1/4" Henckels trapper with red jigged bone scales here. And yes, spey blade for food, clip blade for everything else. Nice scales and nice patina on the blades. I love it.
Here is a rare pattern trapper similar to Blues knife: Buck Millennium Jumbo trapper at the bottom of http://www.ndsproducts.com/buck.html page. In the company of two rare Buck Barlow knives.
I have a Case bone handled trapper with C-V steel I've carried off and on for the past 8 years or so. It takes and holds an edge really well, and is developing a nice patina.
I also have an Old-Timer bare-head trapper I carry sometimes, as well as a Browning mini-trapper I carry for semi-casual use.
Just got an amber bone Case mini that is proving to be a real nice carry knife. Used the spey blade to stuff some foam insulation in the gaps of the old pocket doors between my living room and family room (major draft problem ). Worked perfectly, as screwdrivers were too thick.
Worked at a southern Indiana newspaper the past few weeks on a motor drive installation, and most of the electricians carried mini-trappers, Case or Bear. Used them alot, too!
