Just finished these two to take to the Blade Show. Both are about 3 1/2" closed. ATS-34 blades and backsprings with mammoth and amber bone handles. Thanks for looking.

I'm betting those two will not last very long. They are beauts and look so clean.

Simply excellent work Don, I always enjoy seeing you knives. From an asthetic standpoint they are soem of the nicest knives being made. Your file work is just exceptional, and your designs are really sound.

From people whose opinions I really respect, I understand your fit and finish to be top notch, truly heirloom quality work.

I know you are very partial to ATS34/ 154CM but do you plan to expand into other steels? Although I appreciate a great looking knife, and yours certainly fit the bill and I am sure they cut well enough, I just am very particular about steel choices (I greatly prefer carbon steel and tool steels).

Thanks Knifetester I appreciate the great comments. I am partial to ATS-34. It is a very consistent knife steel for me. I prefer all stainless knives and make most of mine with stainless bolsters, liners, backsprings, and blades. I'm not really opposed to using other steels but I've had a lot of success with ATS-34. What is your favorite knife steel?

Thanks again, Don

My personal favorite steel is M2 for most uses and 5160 for harder use.
Ideally, on a folder like that, I would want different steels used for each blade, for example a slicing blade (Spearpoint) of M2 run pretty hard (over 62RC) and a softer, simpler steel like L6 or 15n20 (tough) in a wharncliffe pattern for fine wood work, cuttting laminate sheets, etc and such.

Different edge grinds and finishes for each blade to optimize performance for its intended use.

I know that is not soething most people would like, but I guess I am not like most people :) :)

Looks wise, it would not be ideal since the blade would look different (patina at different rates, etc), but for a working tool I really don't care.
