I see a lot of people talking about trappers in this forum and was just wondering what trappers do with there hawks and what would be a good hawk design for them. Pics of good examples would be awesome if you have them.

Well, they use hatchets or hawks to sharpen and pound stakes in the ground to chain the traps to. Reach and grab the chain to pull traps up. Dig holes for different types of sets. Maybe smack something down. Build a small fire if needed. I have a small Norlund that would be good for that.

That's what I was going to suggest from reading my great grandfather's daily diary, he was a government trapper.

What a treasure you have. You are most lucky to be able to read the thoughts of your grandfather. Maybe even learn some of his skills.

It's certainly a treasure though perhaps not what you think it is, his dailies consist of describing which traps he's checked and whether or not they caught a critter. We have a number of very old documents from my family's past, it's some amazing stuff peering directly into our history.

Still interesting. I don't keep a daily log. Sometimes I wish I had. Just like looking at some old pictures. Time passes quickly. Regards
