Check out Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival. As far as primitive skills go, it's one of the best. You also might want to get the Hoods Woods video on trapping, it's very informative and fun to watch! Shows some great tips.

You may also want to take a look at the SAS survival guide by John Whiseman. Also keep in mind that simple may be better!

I'll take point

The best "primitive" survival book I've ever read was Lary Dean Olson's "Outdoor Survival Skills". You should be able to order it at a good book store, though it has been out a number of years. Besides traps and deadfalls, it shows brain tanning, bow construction, the whole gamut of Neolithic skills. Realy neat book. But just about ANY survival manual will have a few basic snares and whatnot, even FM-2176.

Go to http://www.survival.com and check out Ron Hood's Woodsmaster Volume 5. Books are good for learning but video is far better. Plus, if you've got a question about a technique used in the video, send Ron an email and he'll set you straight.

I can't recommend this tape (or any other Woodsmaster tapes) highly enough.
