dear all,

I planned to flight from France to California next summer and I would like to take my Kabar fixed blade for camping purposes.

For you, it will be an issue in the airport if the knife is on my luggage?
On the road, if I keep it alway in my luggage?

Thanks for you feeback.

Marc,

Shouldn't be, but you never know. Sometimes they get touchy. Just buy a Kabar when you get in town, they are fairly cost effective, and not too pricey here.

From what I can understand, most parts of California will be fine, aside from a few cities. Honestly, there shouldn't be any issues unless you purposefully go waving it around in public. Carrying it in luggage on the road will give you absolutely no trouble. I've taken mine camping plenty of times, no troubles as long as you are responsible. Its legal to carry it so long as its around your waist and unconcealed, I believe.

As for the airport...I want to say that as long as it isn't in your carry on, there should be no issues, but I haven't flown enough to give a reliable answer.

I can attest that if packed in you checked baggage, you will have no trouble. The US has no import regulations on regular old fixed blades, otherwise I would not have my rather large assortment of Japanese and Swedish cooking and camping blades I love. Worst case scenario is a crooked baggage handler steals it. This is unlikely, but if you want to be extra careful you can always mail it ahead of you to your destination.
