I am flying to Busan, Korea on Saturday to attend a one-week working meeting, specifically IRG 30 (the 30th Ideographic Rapporteur Group meeting). See: http://appsrv.cse.cuhk.edu.hk/~irg/irg/irg30/IRG30.htm

I was in Korea once before, at the end of 2005, in Seoul, also for work.

Also, I managed to reach the 500-page milestone for my book writing ("CJKV Information Processing" Second Edition), which includes Chapters 2 through 7 being done. Chapters 2 through 7 in First Edition, published at the end of 1998, were 360 pages. I should have the remaining chapters wrapped up by August 1st. I am revising Chapter 8 next. Here is the First Edition page: http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781565922242/

I will be so happy when the book is done. It is consuming almost all of my free time.

My Air Force friend is stationed at Kunsan? I think it's Kunsan...might be Osan...I know I'm not spelling those right. His base is an hour or so from Busan. Small world.

Have a fun and safe trip in Korea. I imagine you will be eating lots of kimchi and other preserved/pickled food items.

I can deal with most Korean food. One of the restaurants close to Adobe that my wife and frequent for lunch is Korean. The last time I was in Korea, I was taken to a Chinese restaurant, and the company CEO effectively forced me to try sea cucumber. My wife, who is Japanese, would have enjoyed it, but she wasn't there to rescue me.

hahaha...sea cucumber isn't all that bad. Tastes like Jello to me ;) Hogwash loves that chicken feet stuff.

Have a great time. I was in Kunsan in 04 and had a great time. Great food and people are pretty nice. Take pictures and eat alot. Enjoy.

Have a fun trip and don't forget the soju and OB beer. :D

Green Street in Busan is an interesting place to see. I'm not sure how to describe it in a family oriented forum. :o I was amazed at the number of 'employees' there.

I love Korea, it's a lot of fun. My wife's Korean, and we try to make it over there every year or so. Great country. The people are very friendly and definitely know how to party. It's safe, it's clean, and there's all sorts of things to do. The only negative thing I can say about Korea is that there is little to no knife culture there. At least that I have seen, and that's really not a big deal.

I've never been to Busan, but I'd like to. Everywhere I've been has been awesome- Seoul, Taegu, Kyongju, Jeju and points between- they're all great. Smokin' hot chicks, great food and plenty of booze everywhere.

Have fun!
