Sooooo
. work sprung a trip on me at the last minute. Ended up being 9 days and nearly 4000km long. Normally I enjoy such things but I was really not wanting to do this one and in the end it was not without issues. That said I prefer the country to the city and the vast openness that is the far west of NSW always holds something special if you look hard enough
.that
.or something will sting, bite, burn or eat you
.
First night I woke to -2degs C and a frozen windscreen but the rest of the day was uneventful we arrived at our accommodation mid afternoon and settled in for beer and steaks .
This is a family pet .honest ..
The accommodation was rustic, for me it was a single bunk room about 200yds down in the bush behind the pub, clean and comfortable but the showers/toilets were about 20yds away . made for a brisk walk back after the evening shower
The next day did not start out so well however . We really should have paid more attention to these signs .
Collected the largest Red Roo I have seen in years just before daylight . We were lucky on two fronts, the driver was able to get him off to one side (as centre punching him would have been worse) and we hit him at the low point of his hop, had he been up he would have come into the windscreen . I think the scene went like this.. Driver shyte shyte shyte . Me Ohhhhhhh I think you are going to get this one . Roo BANG CRUNCH THUMP .
We managed to drive it around 5km down the road and onto a property, as far as I know it is still there . We collapsed back into two vehicles and pushed on west the following morning.
Once out at Broken Hill I had a little time between work to play around with the camera
A dried riverbed that see water only a couple of times a year maybe
Of course a Busse was along for the ride
Out to a place called Silverton (and beyond). Mad Max 2, Razorback and a few other movies were shot out here
And the next couple of night I spent chasing sunsets and such right out on the edge on nowhere pretty much looking out west and into South Australia
After a couple of days we left The Hill and headed south east which took as past Menindee Lakes. Due to drought a few years ago these were barren and empty now thanks to a couple of years of good rain and floods they are full of life !!!
It cant be all work
From here we had out next small issue ..
We were traveling on a Sunday, the next town we planning in a stop for fuel was closed no fuel no food etc that was OK, we can make it to our destination with around 50km range +/- I figured so off we went only to encounter a closed road (water/mud/crossings) which left us no options than to try for a place 150km further south (and well past my safe estimates for fuel on at least two of the vehicles (we had acquired a replacement vehicle along the way
We limped into town on fumes ..
After this it was onto the homeward journey I snapped a couple of pics for contrast as I came back into Sydney through the Blue Mountains
Truly glad to be home this time around have some days off, a trip to the chiropractor and sadly a funeral to deal with before it is back to work now.
