Traveling by train. Any restrictions?

Hello,

I'll be traveling by train (Amtrack) with my family from Kansas to Chicago. I plan on taking a Leatherman Wave with me on my backpack or jeans pocket. Is this legal? Or do they search you like they do when traveling by plane?

The written rules for prohibited items do not seem to cover smaller knives or multitools.

Furthermore, it is my understanding that they do not have metal detectors on Amtrak, and bags are not routinely searched.
