Does anyone have any useful info and/or links about traveling to Norway with a knife or sword? I have a present to give someone (a sword.) and I can't find a lick o information on the net about the laws for such things....

For knives spring knives and bali-songs (and other knives that can be opened with one hand) are illegal to import, own or sell if you don't have permission from the police to own them. One type of knife with blades that are 7,8,9" (the three largest types of that type) are sold at tourist shops here in Norway. (Name this type of knives usually go by is "Samekniv" and a picture of one can be seen here.)
So knives shoulden't be a problem.

For swords I don't know since they aren’t mentioned in the law, but I don't think there would be any problem in getting a sword into the country since they sell swords here too. (One example.)

You can find the law about weapons in Norway here. (It’s in Norwegian.)

But if you want to be on the safe side have your friend check the police office, but as I mentioned before it shouldn’t be a problem. And keep the sword/knife in your suitcase/backpack or something similar while you travel here in Norway.

Hope this helps,

Zigna

Edit: Sorry if this is to late... (Didn't check the month this tread was started.)
