Hey guys,

I'm trying to do some research on NC since we are going on vacation for the holiday.

So far, it appears that there are really strict knife laws. ie < 4" overall length for a folder.

Also, NC reciprocates with GA's weapon permit, but I've seen references to not being allowed to carry any place that sells and/or serves alcohol. So a gas station would be off limits since they sell beer.Is that correct?

Can anyone chime in on any of these?

Thanks

Check out the knife law forum here. Found under the knife related forum categories. There is a recent thread on NC law along with a link to the statute.

The law states where "alcohol is sold and consumed". Think bars and restaurants, not gas stations. This was covered in my concealed carry class. That being said, different jurisdictions may interpret an another way and it'll cost you in legal fees to prove yourself in compliance with the law. NCDOJ.GOV has all the carry laws.

Nawf Careliner? Now, why fer on earth would ya'll wanna go to a backwards, unsostiphicated, dirt-roads-for-highways, moonshine-drinkin', John-Deere-ball-cap-wearin' place like Nawf Careliner?

And Nawf Careliner is full of hicks. They latch on to you and don't let go, and if you pull them off their heads pop off and . . . oh, wait a minute. Those are ticks. Sorry for the confusion.

:D

Okay, I'll be serious now. I grew up in North Carolina, and I miss it still. I'd love to move back there someday.

Definitely research the local ordinances regarding knife carry & usage, meaning local to your location. IIRC, there is no state law concerning length restriction on carrying a folding knife, but I can guarantee you every county and/or city will have different regulation regarding knives. A call to the local Sherriff's office would tell you what you'd need to know. Where I'm from (Western North Carolina: Sylva, Asheville, Waynesville area) most police won't hassle you at all about a knife clipped to your pocket or in a sheath on your belt. Elsewhere in the state, I can't say.

Enjoy your time there - it's a beautiful place.

You should be fine as long as you don't walk down the street with a sword. I work for a PD and have never even charged someone with a knife being two big or cc. It's a great place hope you enjoy it and slow down if you go through Hamlet.
