I was wondering as far as Knives go. How does it work if you want to travel from the US to Canada, can you bring your knife with you? Are there certain legal qualifications to making a knife acceptable and not acceptable? Or is it completely off limits?

Don't take a knife to Canada.

Pre-9/11 I was 'busted' at a Montreal amusement park for having a SAK cased on my belt. Four guys cornered me in the park and took me to security. Had to turn over the knife.

I did demand a receipt and 'claim ticket' and contacted them when I returned to the U.S. I got the knife back in the mail.

The only major restrictions are no banned weapons such as autos, balisongs, push daggers, hide away knives(belt buckle knife) or anything like that. The majority of folders and fixed blades are pretty mellow. As for the amusement park ordeal, every place has the right to say no knives allowed so if you do have a knife with you just drop it in your pocket instead of your belt. I highly doubt you will have issues. Assisted knives are kind of a grey area as most non-enthusiasts see them as automatics even the police might so just bring non-assisted knives. Other than that enjoy your stay :)

as long as you don't go waving them around which I'm sure you wont :) you should have nothing to worry about.

no absolutely not. But I mean if they ask me if I have any night Johnny your guns I'm going to have to answer them properly And answer them honestly. I just don't want to lose any of my knives. Especially the ones I love! ;)

I took a swiss army knife with me on my honeymoon in Victoria, BC post 9/11, and I had no problems. IIRC, I had it in my pocket at the BC Museum and Buchart Gardens.

The only person I saw the cops gave trouble to was a teen walking around the mall with a joint tucked behind his ear.

Okay. Spyderco Tuff. Spyderco Superleaf.
Both will be pimped. ..that's my thing...lol. Will that cause issues? (Custom cf scales and maybe one will have a black washed blade)

I have never had an issues crossing the border with what I carry usually something like a mini grip or a spyderco ambitious, but like the others said if your asked why you have it always say utility never defence. Don't wave them around and you'll be fine.

As a more "strict" example: I live in Canada, and once accidentally brought my sak to a night club with police/metal detectors. I pulled it out to give to the cop and he said don't worry about it.
I feel like anything more than that would have been a problem though.

They should be fine yes......in the fundamentals of Canadian law you'll be fine. Just keep in mind that it is always left to the discretion of the officer whom stops you. So you just better hope he's as versed as you are or you'll be in trouble. I'd like to say carry your big knives proudly in Canada because we don't discriminate against responsible knife owners! but it's those who don't even own any good knives that often have the say on us. You have to let them know that it is strictly for it's use as a tool...and even then in the end you just never know so you should be ready to have both of those knives ceased and locked up for a bit. I actually have a few knives myself that have been taken into custody because the officers told me that they exceeded the legal blade length. After I heard that I was just shaking my head and saying goodbye to my kukri for awhile.
