These are just some photos I've taken the last few days I've been out. I've been doing some reconnaissance for areas to shoot photos for an upcoming article plus shooting photos for projects I'm already working on...then just shooting photos because I like to take photos...

We've been getting so much rain lately that the waterfalls on on the side of the mountain have been flowing pretty well all winter, and the lichens, moss, and fungi sure seem to be digging the unseasonably warm weather.

I think I mentioned this a few years ago, but I'll say it again anyway. Decomposing hemlock does look a little like fatwood, especially when it's dry, but it looks and smells nothing like it on the inside.

Some of the trees have some structural issues going on around here, the huge ant population is really having a great time of it. When setting camp near large trees here it can be a good idea to see if they are hollow.

One of the things I've been testing out is a new sheath I bought as part of the upgrades for my ESEE-4. I got it from Eli at Godspeed Tactical and I'm really liking a lot...so much I have a couple more coming for other knives and may be sending him a couple of other knives to make sheaths for if he is interested. Didn't do a whole lot with the kit while I was out, mainly just checking how it rides and having it handy just in case...I did start one fire to warm my feet up the second day after standing in the creek for an hour or so.

Navigating treacherous terrain is a survival skill right? The last couple of days I was out I was thinking how much my youngest would enjoy the area, so today I took her with me and that was what we worked on...as well as various muscle building exercises. She took to the climb like a little goat and made me proud.

We stopped at one of the pools for some stone heaving and some beating-the-water-with-a-stick exercises. You never know when those may come in handy...

One of my favorite areas to sit and meditate is an overhang rock that is at the convergance ot three streams. It was only in the 60s but I knew she wouldn't be able to resist the water for long, so moving on the hydro physics.

Then after a brief rest came the exploring and rock climbing exercises.

Then after so much hard work she was ready to cool off before we headed back down.

It was a great day out! We worked up an appetite, went and ate...then after her shower and everything she passed out around 9, and I got to sit and write in peace :) .

Thanks man, yeah I love spending time with them in the woods and watching their faces as they wonder at all the new discoveries in the natural world.

Probably you finest thread to date if soley for this photo:

Your daughter is cool!

Cheers amigo, great thread and really made me smile.

Thanks Scruff, I love that photo too. She is always climbing whenever she gets a chance. I figure it's good exercise so let her go at it, but that photo on my fb page led to me being woke up to a discussion with the wife the next morning :) . That was funny considering my first hike with her was to her favorite rock outcrop on the side of Signal Mountain with her wearing a long skirt and high heels in the rain...

What a great thread. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed the post.

Great photos Bro

Thanks Bill, I'm glad you liked them.

Thanks bro, luckily she takes after her mother in a lot of ways.

I think water is a tangible magical element that speaks to us all in different ways. Astrologically she is a water sign just like me, our birthdays are just two days apart. I have always been drawn to the water and I am noticing that she is too. I find flowing water hard to resist touching.

Yeah it was a blast! The new handle makes a heck of a difference in feel, and I love the aesthetics.

nice pics as usual! isn't your daughter old enough to have a knife of her own? :) reminds me of one of my friend's daughters - she's always asking about her pink izula.

Great thread, thank you for sharing. It looks like a good time was had by all. My little one shares your daughter's passion for heaving rocks in to water. Ahhh, to be four years old again :)

Thanks man! Oh she has her own knife that a friend of mine, John Hutcheson of SKW made and gave to her. She just doesn't get to carry it yet...I keep it in my pack.

She likes pink so I am considering getting her a pink Izula, I've been looking to see what scales Dale has that would go well with pink. I like the idea of her having her own kit at some point...then again I may get John to make her another knife more suited to a kydex sheath (this one wears leather) and get Eli to make a pink sheath for it. I'll be letting her play with the one I got for her mother to see how she does with it and how she likes it. Her mom likes blue.

Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a great time out and about with her, she loves the woods. And yes, I do love reliving my youth vicariously through my kids :)

That's a cool spot!

Not going to requote the same pic again, but your daughter rocks. I like her knife, too.

Thanks Owen, it's one of my favorite spots of all. Yeah, she's something else, continually amazing me and always making me laugh. Her first knife is a custom, nearly flat ground D2, desert ironwood scales, mosaic pins, and a brass guard, and hand-sewn leather sheath...soooo much better than my first knife lol.

Great thread. Your daughter is a cutie and looks like she is having a blast. What is it about kids and throwing rocks in a creek? They all love it. Teaching good skills of the woods is always a good thing. Great job dad.

Thanks man, yeah she loves it. I know what you mean, I sure did...still do sometimes :o . She can't resist rippling any water she finds :) Thanks man, I'd rather see kids in the woods than in front of a tv any day!
