I am making a leather sheath for my Busse Fatty GW. I plan to keep the natural tanned leather color. But how do I protect it against humidity, water and sweat? If I oil/wax the leather, it turns a lot darker.

Is the answer simply to just apply SuperSheen? Anything else?

Thanks,

I used X-1 leather finish on this BadgerTAC sheath, then leather sheen.

I used a Mixture of 1 part neatsfoot oil to 3 parts parifine on these sheaths .I put it on melted with a brush and after dry I buff with an old sock.As you can see each piece of leather reacts a little different.

Dave....is the leather nice and hard when the parifin treatment is done?
Can bees wax be used instead?
Will exposure to the sun still darken it some....I hope???

Exercise a light touch with neatsfoot oil, let it fully soak in, then seal with super shene or the like and you should be happy. I'll post pics later.

rayban,
Yes the leather is totaly dry from wet forming and hard.
Yes Bees wax can be used John Wylie at Custom Knives ans Guns usethe wax ring that seal a toilet.
Yes it will get a little darker if left in the sun, The saddle maker that told me what to use said if you want the color darker use two light coat and place in a window that gets a lot of sun
I used Parifine as it is cheap and you get 4 bars in a box. After you get it to aliquid state I use a 1/2" wide Paint brush to put it on as some Q-tips to get under the belt loop..
After I'm done I just let it get hard in the pan that i use to melt it

cjpgeyer, Bearpaw Customs and Hoggy Moto- thank you! You have been very helpful and I have some clear ideas now what to do.

Thanks! :)

This one is oiled only, not sealed. Super shene wouldn't darken it up any, just make it shinier. I agree it's darker than without oil but personally I think it's worth it.
