Treating Wool

Does anyone know about retreating wool with lanolin oil?

This seems like a good idea, I want treat my wool pants before winter so they'll shed water better.

What's better, 100% pure lanolin which appears to be like a soft oily wax, or the liquid lanolin oil?

I remember something about mixing what I thought was pure lanolin in water and soaking the wool.

Hopefully our wool maven Magnussen will stop by and fill us in. It's getting to be that time of year and I would like to rejuvenate some of my stuff.

Also, is it a good or bad idea for socks?

I did a quick Google search of "treating wool with lanolin" and found a step by step explanation of how to do it. The woman was treating a diaper or some damn thing and seemed to know what she was talking about.
IF you can make it through her insufferable babble.

Yup.... 100% lanolin is the best.

You don't need much. Maybe a teaspoon in a laundry basket sized rubbermaid bin with hot water. At first, it will look like it's not mixing. Just keep sloshing the garments around every now and then. A 3-4 hrs soak will make sure its in there. Don't be afraid to leave it overnight... I did.

Best thing I ever did for my wool. I overdid it on my Anorak so its a little oily but it wears away after a while.

Some folks are allergic to lanolin so put some on your wrist first t see if you rash up.
