I picked this up at the Hardwoodsman meet this year.

I think his first failure had more to do with the tinder bundle not being as prepared as needed than the coal. That coal was not robust for sure - but his technique and patience paid off. I wouldn't choose this if I had other options - as I think the situation needs to be ideal - but if that was all I had - there is proof it can be done.

Very well done and very informational - his technique is very solid.

As well as successfull coals. Anyone who is versed in friction fire has more fails then coals. Great work man. Tree bark is one of those rare great tips you hear. I still need to try the cottonwood. Maybe on the trip this weekend. Thanks bro. Great video.
