tree sap on D2 steel

I was using my D2 paramilitary to cut small twigs from some tree limbs awhile ago. i didnt clean the blade immediately so it has a chance to sit on the blade.

i usually use tuf-glide to clean and lube my blades and pivots. i tried using it on the blade to get rid of the sap residue but it still remains there partially.

anyone have any good suggestions on getting rid of sap from blades? prefer not to disassemble and lube and clean it if i can help it. but that may be my only shot.

ive used the tuff glide on it on a few different occasions and its not putting a dent on it.

Goo Gone. It works, I've used it to remove tree sap from my knives. Might help to let it sit for a minute or two, before wiping it off.

I'm reading that Tuf-Glide is an 'oil-free' dry lubricant, which may be why it's not working for you. I think many petroleum-based solvents (including Goo Gone) might work to remove the sap. I've heard lighter fluid and kerosene might do the job. Possibly something like mineral spirits or paint thinner as well.

Tried a little wd40 still there. I know googone is some good stuff. Probably try that or rubbing alcohol. Tuffglide usually gets it...but ill rubbing alcohol or goo gone

Don't you have household Comet. Alcohol, carb cleaner, kerosene, hand cleaner, Hoppes #9 solvent, ect.. Any of these should work. DM

Carb Cleaner also works.

Powernoodle recommends using safety goggles when applying carb cleaner. Thats is some very nasty [bleep], and its under pressure and not that easy to apply with precision. Just my eye safety tip of the day. You are right that carb cleaner will clean just about anything.

I use Goo Gone or WD-40 for sap, tape residue, etc.

I've used gasoline to remove a lot of stuff. I'll bet it would eat right through tree sap.

As mentioned above, Kerosene. It also removes glue as I have used this when Goo Gone wasn't around. Goo Gone smells much better.

Yea ive used carb cleaner and brake cleaner before. Yea they can be difficult to apply with precision. Im used to just sprayin whatever down all over not needing precision

Mayonaise or peanut oil if you like to eat or prep food with your knife. Let it sit for a minute or two then wipe and rinse. Great for dogs (or people) if they get it in their hair, too. Add a litte roasted garlic and cayenne pepper and make a BLT after!

It is a known fact to any parent that baby wipes can, and do, clean anything off of everything! :p

they are great. but doesnt work so well when the kids throw gum on your windshield, without you knowing, it melts onto the wiper blade and when it starts raining you put on the wipers and the melted gum is smeared all over...

rubbing alcohol worked tho, acetone has also never let me down in any removal/thinning application.
