It's not even spring and I'm already thinking about fall. . .

Does anyone have any experience with the the strap-on type of tree steps, something like this:

Scroll down near the bottom

I'm looking for a non-marking, non-permanent way of getting up into tree that's not too heavy/cumbersome for hunting applications.

I like them, you will notice a bit of slack in them while going up or down but I've never had one break or slide and they are quicker and quieter for me to set up. Tough as well, I left a set up for a year and didn't notice any ill effect but I don't think it's recommended, I found it's a good ideal to make sure nothings been chewing on them before I commit my body weight. One more thing I've noticed is they make a tree easier to find, but may alert game so you may want to get them up a little early so the animals can adjust, I always spray the webbing with earth scent or similar as well.

Good luck

I've used them before without any problems. However, I switched to a climbing stand several years ago and will never go back

I also switched to a climber, i have the summit ss. You can bring it anywhere and however high u want. however, if you have to walk over a mile your back will be sore....

I have a climber (Summit Bushmaster) that I've used for the last 5 years or so and it's a nice stand, I don't intend to put it away. However, I need something for those times when I've got some traveling to do, and bushwhacking with a climber on my back has proven to be no fun at all.

Have you guys used the Ameristeps that I linked to? Are there others that are better?
