I guess I got one heat treated and one not heat treated???
I read all three of my knife making books and got a good grasp of the heat treating concept
I didn't see anything about the "spacers"
I'm gonna go talk to the Nordic Knives people next week and see if they have some sort of weekend apprentice/bladesmith program or some guild I can join
I always wanted to be in a guild ya know.....
If not, hopefully they can refer me to someone who can grind and heat treat these
Hopefully it's not like 100's of dollars

The handles on the sharpfinger "Grandads" Kit are cheesy/weak ...BTW

I'll move my 100's of question to the Shop Talk Forum
I just thought you all might like to see how I did in my Smokey Mt. crap shoot.......

It's nice to see what has actually been shipped from Smokey, I was considering purchasing a few blanks myself but it would be hard to guess whether I would ever get around to finishing them. Please post pictures when the knife is done.

I took the plunge and bought one of the Bowie blades also, It's one heck of a blade Tang stamped and ground, just needs a final sharpening, not sure about what I will do for the handles, Also bought a fixed blade grab bag, one or two oddities, a nice Western guthook, a small Marbles knife along with a Remington short blade. I'll post pics tommorow.

LOL Rusty!!
Man...I didn't know the blade was THAT big until I opened up the package
I started laughing "Damn Trent!! You got your self a Crocodile Dundee blank!!"
I think it's a good deal for 19 bucks
The steel is THICK
I like the swedge design on the top too...looks mean
I am gonna "practice" handle making/mounting on some cheaper blanks of course....

Trent, i always enjoy your posts. from this one and others, i'd say you are a real "adventurer", jumping in where others fear to tread. ever think of starting a thread "all ya need to know to sell your knives on ebay and save yourself from bankruptcy"? roland

HAhahahah
I've only been buying/selling knives on EBAY for under a year
The VISA Company sure does love ME though ;)

As promised on an earlier thread pics of my blades from SMKW via the Camillus sale. I think I may go get another Bowie blade.

I like the Marbles one
The Western I would cut off the guthook
That is just me though...I don't really like the look of guthook knives

If you get another Bowie you could do:
Black and white Corian
Hickory and rosewood
Curly maple and black walnut

I looked online and couldn't find anyplace that sells the guards with that big of a "slot"

Rusty,
Third blade from the left in bottom pic is a Tigersharp "side blade" I think.
Is it 2 blades welded together with a gap between?

Phil, that's correct when I recieved the knife I was trying to make out what was going on, how was this design used.

Rusty1

The Tigersharp concept is replaceable blades.
A thin blade can be inserted and locked in by the handle.
I believe Acme United bought Tigersharp before Camillus closed.
