Ok so basically I have a Recon 1 that I just got. If I wiggle the blade up and down I can push the blade down and the lock bar at the detent shifts down as well. Now is this the self adjust or is it bladeplay?

4 of 5 triad lock knives I have exhibit a small amount of vertical play. I think it's just part of the design. :)

Sorry to resurrect a dusty thread but today I figured out the reason why it has up & down blade play. Its because the handle is not screwed together 100% due to too much oil or maybe some lint or dust from their factory preventing all the screws to be screwed in the handle all the way.

The up and down blade play on the Tri Ad lock usually happens after you have carried it for a long time or sometimes on rare occasion it comes from the factory like that.

The handle it self is an important part of the Tri Ad lock to be locked correctly.

You have to take the entire knife apart and wash the entire inside and outside with warm water and dish washing soap, make sure every single screw hole is cleaned out good and dry it up,grease up the pivot area and tri ad lock and then put it back together, the up and down blade play should be gone after this.

I've only got 1 Tri-Ad (American Lawman), but it's extremely solid.
I have disassembled and cleaned it. The pivot was very rough from the factory.

Also, when testing for play, make sure your palm isn't pressing the lockbar...
