Morning, I own a black and an orange G10 916 triages. I am wondering if I wanted to dye the orange scales a different color.. if even possible what Is the recommended way?

Black dye is the only color I would do. Rit dye. Follow the directions.

Make sure the scales are scrubbed clean. No bare fingers on them after cleaning.

I use the liquid black rit dye. Follow the directions. Get the liquid hot in a pot on the stovetop. Turn off the heat and put the scales in. Let them soak for 10-15 minutes submerged. Check. Shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to get color.

If the color isn’t taking then the scales are too polished or coated with something.

So I couldn’t go from the Benchmade Orange factory G10 scales to a rit dye red?

The red may not be dark enough to cover the orange. Once I did tan g10 with brown dye and the color turned out a dark grey. It’s not so cut and dry.

Oh ok. Any idea if KG Gunkote either rolled or Brushed on would hold up durability wise and properly cover the orange G10?

Anything applied to the surface can be scratched off. But you could always redo the scratched areas . The Internet says that ceracoat works on g10 if cleaned thoroughly with acetone, not sure about guncoat.
