Was a little frustrated today and felt like banging on something so I thought I'd try a big blade in the new forge. Used a 1 1/4 X 3/8" piece of 1065 and forged out a 12" blade. Sorry for the bad picture of the blade, I must have still been vibrating from all the hammering.

Nice looking blade.
Why is it we tend to end up with a bunch of blades and half finished axe head around the shop.
I was pleased to see I am not the only one with a couple of blades just lying around waiting to be finished.

Reg, I've come to this conclusion. Our mothers or wives do not come out in the shop to pick up after us. Now I know there a few that are real neat nicks but in my shop clutter rules. If there's a place to set a unfinshed blade in my shop there's most likly a half dozen already there.

That's a great looking little forge, I have a bunch of tanks sitting around that can't be used anymore, how did you clean it before you cut it up?

Tony, most the bottles I get have had the valves removed when I get them. If they don't I'll first hook them up to a weed burner and bleed them off. Then I'll drill a small hole in them and let them set even longer before I start doing any cutting.

Thank you Raymond,I'll give it a try I didn't know if the propane left any residue or not so I'll wash it good then cut it on a bandsaw.

Thanks
Tony

What I've done is to use a hand drill (slow, cool, no sparks) on an empty cylinder to put two holes in the top, then fill it with water - hence two holes, one for air out, one for water in.

Displaces any residual gas.
