They did send me a new one actually.

Getting a new modem the other day was like shopping in a Turkish bazaar. After countless time spent with technical support, the customer service guy wanted $80 plus $20 shipping for a new modem. I replied that we had been customers for 8 years, and that price was unacceptable.

He then said they could send a free modem if we'd commit to 12 more months.

Unacceptable.

He then offered me the modem if I'd pay $20 shipping.

Unacceptable.

He finally offered a new modem with no shipping and no obligation. Each time, I had to state that I wanted to cancel services before he'd make a new offer. This whole bargaining ordeal took half an hour of my life away.

I should have held out for a free modem and three months of free service for my troubles. No matter. I think I'm going to switch to ATT soon anyway.
