Hey guys.
I started a thread here about the passing of my dog

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/867987-Put-my-dog-down-today

I had been working on a knife for a few days before he passed and decided to make it a tribute to him. I put a little pic of him under the scales and plan on branding a little paw with his initial on it on the scale.

I was curious to see if any of you had done anything similar, what I mean is have any of you ever made a special knife as a tribute or memorial or just something unique that had some sort of meaning...

Sorry to hear you lost a friend. You can do what ever you want to do. I made a set of knives in memory of my Grandmother over 25 years ago, still think of her when I look at them.

Here's an idea that might interest you for similar projects: you can use plexiglass for a handle scale (or just an insert) and put pictures underneath it. Once it seals up the picture is completely protected and you can see it through the plexiglass.

I think its great doing that.... I'd do it if I had the chance and situation... And sadly I know I will :(

Dogs... My one weakness...

Finished Product. Anybody have any experience with branding handle scales?

I'm looking for tips on how to brand a dime size paw print with the letter M in it. Thanks

When I lost my buddy (160 lb rott) I actually got my first knife kit in the mail. I know that is not exactly what you are referring to, but hey, gotta start somewhere. The whole rest of the day, I worked on that project. Gave me something to do, for sure. My wife still calls it my 'Brutis knife'. Field dressed my first deer with it too. It may not be a true custom, but it has value to me.

I feel for you brother.
