Trick to get more kick from your JYD I

I was playing around with my new JYD and found what i think is a better way to open it as opposed to the technique mentioned here. Instead of placing your index finger on the flipper and preloading your finger then pulling down, place your finger on the scales just above the flipper. To give you an idea of where to place your index finger, look at the pivot screw as if it were a clock. The tip of your index finger would be in the 1 O'Clock position above the pivot screw on the top part of the handle. Just give it a good flick downward toward the flipper. I found that this gives an easier and more authoritative snap and lockup. I counted myself opening the knife this way 100 times and it locked up 100 out of 100 times. More then that acually.....I just stopped counting. So try it out and see how it works for you.

After I disassembled my JYD II, cleaned the pivot, washers, and blade, and put a drop of Militec-1 on the pivot, the JYD II flips open much faster, and stronger, regardless of technique.

the JYDI is a tad small for a flipper but mine works fine... I recently played with the Ener-G mini and despite it's revolutionary LeeW mechanism, it was one of the more akward flipper I've ever held. The grooves in the ramp also chew on your finger. I haven't tried the Ener-G 2 as yet but maybe the larger size works better. The Groove remains for me, one of the best flippers I've ever held... production AND custom.

Oh, come on OE, the Ener-G can be opened with your eyes closed. Heck Jen in the front can open this piece with ease...I'm just saying.

:) sorry for the criticism, and it was just the one knife, so it may have just been a tad tight. All and all, I'm a Kershaw lifer (going on 27 years). I'm happy to try the bigger model if you want to sell me one.... heck, you're on my way home every day. Can't say I could show you the mini, since It's already sold and gone (I sell on eBay;)
