Trick to swapping the clip?

I recently bought an XM-24, great knife. It arrived with the clip set for tip down carry, and I'd like to swap it.
My problem is that last time I swapped the clip on my XM-18 I screwed it up somehow. Pretty simple I figured, unscrew screws, swap clip and filler (or whatever that piece is called), re-screw screws. About a month afterwards the clip popped off. I found one screw and the clip, re-screwed it in, and used a screw from the filler so I'd have two. It'd hold tight for about a week and then loosen. Somehow I stripped them and they wouldn't hold.
It got to the point that I wouldn't carry the knife because I was afraid of losing the clip/making it worse. Since I really don't want to do that to this knife, I figured I'd ask the question on here if there was some trick or if I just did something weird somehow and it was a one time thing and I shouldn't worry about it. Thanks much.

There isn't a trick. It is pretty straight forward.

Use the proper sized tools. Don't gorilla tighten the screws. Locktite does work.

Figured as much. After screwing up the last one somehow I figured I'd ask. I'll have to send it in for repair once I get back to the states.

1. Use the right size Phillips. One with an end cap that spins is a plus as constant downward pressure can be applied as you turn.
2. Use blue loc tite on all screws.
3. DO NOT over tighten.

If you've stripped the screws or cross threaded it somehow, don't think loc-tite will be that much of an assistance. That being said, try out the loc-tite and if it still comes loose...time to send it in- maybe for a tap for a slightly bigger screw, maybe. You could also try to epoxy it, but then again, do you really want to do that to an XM. Good luck.
