Could you please explain to me the purpose of the serrations being raised above the rest of the spine, and angled forward of the plane of the rear spine?

Well guess I may as well come clean, this one is coming out west to live with me, hopefully for a long time....unless of course I find a .454 mag. to take it's place :D
