Tricky (for me) sharpening situation

I have a Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz. I've been trying to sell it but having no luck. I love the knife but can't seem to keep it sharp. I had so much trouble sharpening it last time' I sent it back to Mr. Nealy for regrinding. It looks great now, with a mirror-type edge.

It looks like I'm going to keep this, as there is not much interest. I do love it, but I need to be able to sharpen it.

The problem is with the reinforced tip. When I use the sharpmaker, I can get the regular edge pretty sharp, but the rods hit the sides when sharpening the tip. There is all that metal in the way. Mr. Nealy sharpened it and it appears that there is no bevel on the tip area now. The grind on the tip just goes all the way to the edge. The rest of the edge, however, does have a secondary bevel.

I've also tried the lansky but it also hits all that metal instead of sharpening the edge.

I know my vocabulary is not right here but hopefully everyone understands what I mean.

My question is, how do I sharpen the tip area? Sharpmaker? How?

I've attached a photo so everyone can see what exactly this reinforced tip is like. This is really drive no me crazy and it's looking like I will be keeping this so I need to learn how to sharpen it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very good at freehand sharpening - still learning.

My first thought is that the tip is convexed. Use the sharpmaker for the main edge and wet/dry sandpaper over leather/mouspad for the tip. Good luck.

I'll look into the mousepad and sandpaper. Richard I'm not too sure about the paper wheels. I'll look into it also. I'm still hoping it will sell but if it doesn't I'm going to need to learn to sharpen it. It's a great blade but difficult for me to keep sharp.

The paper wheels are very intriguing and I'll definitely read through that thread. That may be what works for me long term.

if you want to learn more about them i'll be glad to give you a call and fill you in real quick about them.

I might take you up on that. I need to do some preliminary research first. I'm still practicing freehand but it's taking a while.
