Just after some info from the Sog followers on here.

The original Trident (S2) is discontinued. Replaced by the Trident 2.0 (S2B).

Now they are very similar in materials and specifications. The original is very slightly shorter but has thicker steel.
My question is why the large diffirence in price? The 2.0 is much cheaper. Both are Aus 8 and Micarta.
Is it because the original is Seki? or US? made and the 2.0 Taiwan?
Or is it something else I have missed?

Thanks from a new collector of Sog fixed baldes:)

Cheers

Anyone??

Love some advice. Have the 2.0 and have the chance to get the original as well (getting harder to get, more so downunder).

$$ are pretty good so not a concern. Just the similar specs have me worried.

:jerkit: I know you wouldn't do that cause I'm your favorite turd. Besides that I did not know that they discontinued the S2 Trident to be replaced with the Taiwan model S2B. That sucks! I guess the S1 bowie is next. I am glad I have the older knives already although they will be around for a while, but I bet the cost on the 2nd hand market is going up. Probably all SOG's will be Taiwan made soon. Sorry but I got one of the new Gov-Tac's a while back and it was a Taiwan made knife. I would rather pay the extra to have it made in Japan or the US. When you short change buying a knife you are only hurting yourself in the long run. $50 or more on a knife you will be able to use for many years is a small price to pay vs a lower end performer. You may not agree but I think SOG is f'in blowing it here.:thumbdn:

Vince.

I liked SOG because they were made in the US or Japan. The important thing here is QUALITY and many other US manufacturers were going to Taiwan to save on $$$. Therefore, I refuse to buy a Taiwan made knife. Too bad SOG jumped on this band wagon. The SOG name has just dropped in status for me
