Trident handle...

Hi, all.

I'm thinking of buying the SOG Trident (S2), and have a question about the handle. Is it made out of micarta rings, like the leather rings on the Bowie (S1), or is it a solid "one piece" micarta handle? Thanks in advance!

PS. The S2 sure looks like the perfect knife for me, and I think it will get as much use as my Government Agent and my Powerlock!

Rower :) :)

not really sure ..... I'm looking at the SOG website for the Trident II (the S2B model ??) and it says "stacked Micarta washer handle"......

my own personal guess is that the Trident S2 will have "washers" since those would be easiest to manufacture/assemble.

I've never actually played around with the Trident, but since it is nearly identical to the S1 Bowie which I have, you'll like the Trident !!

Cheers,

Carl

Its made out of micarta rings like the bowie, but its so tight it feels like its just one piece. Very silky feel and it maintains a good grip even while wet.

Edit: Sorry I didn't check this thread earlier. Been rather busy. The micarta washers are about 3 times as tall as the leather ones used on the Bowie, and while I didnt count, there are no more than 8-9 total, as opposed to 30 on the S1. Im sure you will love the S2, its overall smooth feel/looks makes it my favorite all-around knife :D

That's just the information I was looking for. I was hoping that the handle was just like you described it. Another question: Is the handle round like a broomstick, or is it oval?
Thanks,
Rower

The shape is almost exactly that of the Bowie. Its oval with slightly flattened front and back with finger grooves. The diameter gets slightly larger as it gets closer to the butt for better grip.

The pic on the SOG website really makes it look circular but its not.

as far as the handle shape goes, you can always re-shape it to a form you like better.

there's another SOG Forum poster who is doing that exact task on his S1 Bowie. He's been filing/grinding/removing material from the handle to deepen the finger grooves to obtain (for him) better fit & feel.

Cheers,

Carl
