Trident II just arrived.
I'm a fairly traditional guy in many respects, and knifery is one of them. I'm a sucker for leather washers and carbon steel. This one holds close enough to traditional lines to gladden my heart while using more weather-resistant materials in the stainless & micarta. I also like a good hefty blade, of which this one are it (as the poet said :D ). Being non-tactical to the max, I don't like coated blades. I don't have to worry about moonlight reflecting off the knife and alerting a sentry while I do the low crawl approaching the perimeter, and I find the coating usually gets pretty scratched up and worn early on. Bare steel works fine for me.
Blade design is useful, the top guard is shorter than the bottom guard, and that allows choking up on the blade with the thumb over & forward of the guard if you need to. With the semi-choil at the rear of the cutting edge, I can get my first finger forward of the lower guard and my thumb about halfway down the blade on top to choke up even farther. Like most double guards, the top one could still be a little shorter (about a quarter-inch would be good), but that's my only criticism of the Trident II, and that guard's much easier in use than my old KaBar.
Excellent heft & beautifully done, and SOG even put it in a workable leather sheath with stone and a restraining strap that folds over the spine of the blade instead of the cutting edge.
This is a nice one that should see a lot of use.

Glad you like it! I personally like the Tech Bowie better but that is just my opinion.
