Trident knives a smart choice?

Well since I can't search I figured I'd start my own thread. So is there anyone out there that's actually had experience with (crusader forge) Trident knives? I think they look absolutely beautiful and I would love to give one a try, but I don't want to regret spending that kind of money and wishing I'd spent it on a Busse.

I've owned a few Busse's and Swamprats, how do these compare? I'm looking at the Oberland 02, anyone have one that has given it some good hard use?

Any info is appreciated, I hate to buy a 300+ dollar knife without some kind of education first.

Thanks!

Not sure if you're still looking at these, but they are very nice knives.

Quality is excellent, customer service is good, and they are definitely TOUGH! My one gripe is that all of their knives are of the sharpened crowbar persuasion. Very thick and meaty. Not really suited for finer cutting or slicing.

You won't regret spending $300 on one of these blades as long as you know that you're getting a thick, sharp, knife that will take a beating, but is not designed for fine slicing.

Good blades but I'd rather spend the money on a Busse. If you do get a trident try to get one out of 3V. They do make them if you request it. I have two on order with 3V. The other thing is the turnaround time. I would try to find a vendor that already has some stocked. It has taken me FOREVER to get my first order, a TCFM 02. I had multiple inquiries and was told every time that it would be shipped in a week or two. Never happened. It took about a little over a year and now a little more to get my other two orders (still haven't come). They will supply LEO and military first as well as authorized dealers. I don't have a problem with that but I'd just like to be HONESTLY informed up front about my wait time wihtout the empty promises. I was close to asking for a refund and they seemed upset/short with me for making iquiries. I'll wait for my blades a few more weeks and if nothing comes ask for a refund. If they do ome I may also just sell them as I've been very impressed with Busse and some custom makers. Good blades but not entirely custom or worth the wait to me. I prefer the Busse ergos and style better. For the money you an just contat a custom maker. There are plenty good ones here on the forum. Just my .02.

I've got a Trident folder, a Metro model. It's a hell for strong knife and the blade shape is pretty good. Thick and pointy however, it's a great slicer.

My only grip is as follows: I needed a new clip for the knife (previous owner modified it and I wanted an original unit).

After contacting Trident, I was promised a new clip free of charge. A very nice offer. Well after a long time waiting I contacted them again, was told no problem it'll be sent out soon. Insert another long wait and more emails, then more waiting, then very frequent emails from me.

Finally the clip showed up, free of charge and perfect. It took awhile, too long for my liking but it's my understanding it's basically a two person operation, the maker and his spouse.

Life can get busy and we're all only human after all. Am I happy with the product, definitely ! ! ! Could the CS aspect of Trident knives use work? Maybe but I don't know the whole story.

Hey, it's been awhile since I started this thread guys! Thanks a lot for your responses. I'm still considering a Trident for sure, but I'll definitely order a premade one should I decide to go ahead with it. The only thing that would concern me is the point murdok brought up, I would want it in 3V, I'm not too keen on S30V.

Much appreciated

They are nice people and I know it is a small operation but being asked to pay in full and wait for over a year when I was initially quoted a 3 month wait is not my idea of a good time. Having someone sit on over a grand of my money and quote dates they know they won't fulfill is just frustrating. I was extremely patient and very nice in my emails and only sent a few emails as dates they quoted passed by. Eventually one of my orders showed up but man it took forever. Was it worth it? It was a great knife but being given the run around didn't make it worth it. I was very patient and would have been more understanding had they just given me a realistic time frame instead of something they most likely knew they could not fulfill. I know they are a small business but being upfront would make it a lot easier for their customers to want to continue buying from them or even waiting for orders. I like their folders and some of their fixed blades (I've had a few and released them back into the wild) but I would only buy one from a dealer or second hand and only if other things I wanted were unavailable. I won't place a direct order again and sadly the CS placed them a little lower on my list. I can get great quality, awesome CS, and dependable turnaround estimates from Busse and custom makers and prefer that route but that is only my experience. I know other's might have had a more pleasurable experience. I should have tried the gum.
