Hi guys. I just picked up one of the original Seki Japan SOG Trident Bowies (S2). I noticed that the lanyard hole in the pommel is on the "bottom" or blade edge side of the pommel. My other fixed blades including my S1 and the most recent Trident S2B has it on the other side or "top" of the pommel. Has anyone else seen one like this? The S2 came new in the box. Could it be a factory second? Hmmm?

Very unlikely the knife is a factory second, Santino. It sounds more like a subtle change in the way the tridents are being manufactured. Companies sometimes do change the way a knife is made over time. Here's an example. Look at all the minor changes the Gerber Mark II dagger went through over time. They're all Gerbers. They're all Mark II's. They're all very different creatures.

You're lucky. In your case there's a real model number difference between an S1 and and S2. Not all SOGs are like that. I had to ask a couple of weeks back about the different markings I noticed on my SOG Pentagons. They're all Pentagons, no change in model number, but the markings are different as is the way they were applied. Even the accompanying leather sheaths are slightly different in the grade of leather, the fit, and the finish on the leather though the style of the sheath itself never changed.

I think some one on the production line was distracted. I have two S2 Trident Bowies and both of them have their lanyard hole's on the spine side. I've never seen one any other way. Maybe you have one of those "mistakes" that will increase the value of the knife. I bet Ron would have some knowledge on this subject.
