What do you guys think of this knife. I am considering purchasing it and using it for every day carry. Most of the stuff I've heard about SOG is that there is TONS of bladeplay. Is this true and if it is what are some ways to fix it? And if you think the Trident isnt a good EDC knife can you give me some other examples to look at?
Thanks,
BenLankford.

I have one and it has very little blade play, I don't think it would effect its performance what so ever..Tightening the pivot may help alittle but not so tight that it slows down the assisted opening... The tanto tip is very thick, It is very lite in typical SOG fashion..
Mine is up for trade if interested, if not, I don't think you will be unhappy with buying this knife...

If you have one how fast is the assisted opening compared to Kershaws Speedsafe? I carry a Kershaw Tanto Blur (Love that Tanto blade) and I was wondering if it was faster or slower then a Kershaw.

Oh and thanks for your input. I'm currently diciding between a Spyderco Tenacious and this. I'm prolly going to end up buying both. But I like the Trident more as a EDC knife. I love the deep pocketclip on SOG's.

LOL, I actually have all three of these knives, in my opinion the Blur is a bit faster

Hahaha. I was at Dick's Sporting Goods and I looked at this knife. The guy behind the counter had a plain SOG Trident he said that when you pull it out of your pocket it will normally open by itself. (Like the Emerson Wave) And that would be awesome if it did. I was going to "Wave" the Tenacious if I did get it. (http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/speedkngoshin.htm) And which do you prefer overall the Trident or the Tenacious?

I think the guy at Dick's is trying to sell you a line of crap, the only way you could wave it is by catching the thumb stud on your pants pocket. But this isn't that easy and not very practical.. The Tenacious on the other hand comes razor sharp, I sliced my thumb today with it and never knew I was cut until I seen blood, it is SCARY SHARP.. with the spydie hole you could for sure wave it your self, I currently have zip-ties on mine and it works really well.. But if you wanted to alter it, you could.. Which one do I prefer? Thats a hard question, I would say the Tenacious but not by much, I think the price is what puts it ahead.. But both are great...

Well it depends, both blade steels are decent.. AUS8 and 8cr13mov but if you wanted a great steel for EDC I would recommend you get something with 154CM or S30V.. SPyderco Manix 2 or the Para Military and Military are great.. OR anything Emerson.. If you are wanting to keep the price down, you can get a manix2 for $80.. But between the two I would go with the Tenacious..

I really want the Emerson Wave Tanto Plain Edge one but its like $150. So I think I'm going to get the Tenacious. The only thing I don't like about it is the pocket clip isnt as deep as the SOG's is and I run around alot with my knife and I prefer a deep clip.

Well I can tell you that the tenacious pocket clip is very strong, I think you will like the tenacious better.. Just holding it feels higher quality.. I don't know why but SOG's zytel has always felt kind of cheap to me, maybe its just all in my head... You can't go wrong with an Emerson, I EDC one and I love it..

Yeah I love the Emerson knives when I save up my money I will defently buy one. And is the pocket clip on those knives deep?

Damn if you have the time can you take a quick picture for me so I can see. The Emerson website dosn't show the backside of the knife.

I love where this clip is, I actually hate the SOG clips because they ride to low and they are slow when it comes to deployment but this Emerson and Spyderco Delica Wave are the best in the deployment department

Yeah except I carry my knife when I skateboard so if I fall I only want the pocketclip to get messed up not the top or bottom of the knife.

Yeah I see your point, well if your looking for a low ride pocket clip you will be hard-pressed to find any better than SOG..

Yeah that's why i'm talking to STR about making a low rider pocket clip for the Tenacious. Also he said he could wave it for me too :D

I sent in my SOG Flash 2 because it had up and down bladeplay really bad and they wont fix it!!!

I didnt even use the knife. As soon as I got it in the mail, I opened it and clackety clack clack -the blade had way too much up and down movement to be considered a respectable knife. I sent it in imeadiately and they tell me that up and down blade play means that the knife should be practicaly falling out of the handle and that my blade movement was normal and that they would not fix it. WTF. I will never buy from SOG again.

And I mean real up and down blade play. I was fine with the side to side play because it was somewhat adjustable, but the up and down will haunt me forever. If I wave the knife around you can hear the blade clacking (not the lock mechanism -which is loose too). So I am pretty pissed that I ever bought from SOG.

If I were you guys I would stick to their fixed blades, they cant F that up.
